About the role
The Division of Cardiac Surgery within the Heart and Vascular Institute at Mass General Brigham is seeking a full-time Surgical Associate who is board certified or board eligible in Cardiac Surgery or possesses the foreign equivalent. Mass General Brigham is a major teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School with clinical activities spanning Massachusetts General Hospital (Fruit Street Campus) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (Francis Street Campus).
Responsibilities
- Participate in regional and national heart and lung donor procurement, including donation after circulatory death (DCD) procurement techniques.
- Evaluate and preserve thoracic donor organs.
- Participate in the multidisciplinary Shock Team, providing expertise in the implantation, management, and explanation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and temporary mechanical circulatory support devices, including Impella, ProtekDuo, and other contemporary support platforms.
- Participate in the care of patients undergoing heart transplantation, durable mechanical circulatory support, and other complex cardiac surgical procedures, depending upon experience and interests.
Requirements
- Board certified or board eligible in Cardiac Surgery or possess the foreign equivalent.
- Excellent technical skills and strong clinical judgment.
- Ability to function effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to patient safety, teamwork, professionalism, and collaboration across Mass General Brigham campuses.
- Enthusiasm for teaching medical students, residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, and other members.
