Surgery Veterinary Assistant
Surgery
The Surgery team at MedVet is a fast-paced environment designed for technicians who are eager to gain experience across various aspects of the department and interact with other teams within the hospital. This position requires strong communication skills to liaise between surgeons and clients and to deliver post-operative care instructions.
- Manage appointments, obtain patient histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
- Fill medications, enter charges and maintain accurate medical records, schedule appointments
- Create patient releases, navigate client conversations around treatment plans and financial obligations
- Prepare patients for surgery, including shaving, scrubbing and positioning, assist with intubation and radiographs
- Proficiently perform blood draws and submit bloodwork
- Ensure documentation is accurate and complete
- Open, turn over and clean operating rooms, as well as clean instruments and wrap packs
Qualifications
- Prior veterinary experience required, previous surgery experience desired
- Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
- Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
- Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
