About the role
SurgCenter of the Potomac is hiring a Surgery Scheduler. The facility is accredited by The Joint Commission and focuses on providing a high-quality, service-oriented environment for surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Schedules all surgical procedures.
- Obtains and enters all necessary information from surgeon or scheduler requesting OR time.
- Aware of instruments and equipment limitations of the department.
- Communicates with OR Director/Administrator regarding managing block time.
- Allows adequate time for each procedure according to physician request.
- Allows adequate time for room turnover.
- Attempts to schedule similar types of cases in the same room to increase efficiency.
- Communicates special equipment, instrument, supply, and staffing requests to the OR Director.
- Contact surgeon’s offices two days prior to schedule to confirm surgical times and procedures.
- Refers conflicts and procedural questions to the OR Director.
- Keeps all department managers informed of changes affecting current schedule.
- Aids in completing forms for add-on procedures.
- Prepares and distributes a “week at a glance” to assist with departmental staffing.
- Attempts to minimize down time of rooms between cases.
- Prepares final version of schedule for the following day.
- Assists other employees when time allows.
- Might be asked to visit surgeon offices for marketing purposes.
- Consistently punctual and shows a responsible and dependable pattern of attendance.
- Participates and supports BDP/QI programs and activities.
- Cross-train in front desk areas, to include Switchboard, Insurance Verification, and Check-in.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent telephone etiquette.
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Alertness and adaptability to change in situations.
- Holds all patient information confidential.

Pay
Pay Range: $25.00/hr - $30.77/hr (Wages are determined based upon several factors, including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience.)
