About the role

This position involves working closely with patients, as well as the doctors who treat them. The role includes reviewing charts, scheduling surgeries, obtaining pre-authorizations, communicating with insurance companies, coordinating admissions, making postoperative appointments, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is submitted.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient charts and schedules various types of surgeries.
  • Takes direction from physicians and manages multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Serves as the primary resource for physicians regarding surgery scheduling.
  • Works with insurance companies to secure pre-authorizations for patients.
  • Collaborates with healthcare facilities to coordinate patient admissions and transfers.
  • Communicates with patients and their families about upcoming procedures and postoperative care.
  • Maintains the surgical calendar for physicians.
  • Ensures all surgical forms are completed and sent to the facility.
  • Coordinates preadmission testing for patients.
  • Manages the scheduling of postoperative appointments.
  • Ensures all required paperwork for surgery is received by the facility.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Good manual and finger dexterity.
  • Physical demands include medium work, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods and perform light driving.
