Surg Clerical Suppt Sched Specialist - Gastro - Full-Time
Job Summary
The Surgery Clerical Support/Scheduling Specialist must exercise superior communication skills and filter a vast amount of information accurately, interfacing effectively with patients, physicians, and all other levels within the organization when scheduling procedures. They must have a working knowledge of CPT, DRG, and ICD9 codes to add-on surgical procedures the day of, through the coordination of the Surgery Charge nurse and anesthesia. They must also handle multiple staff requests, direct them to the most appropriate person in a timely manner, and complete patient transportation information for transporters.
Education
- Required: High School education and experience in medical terminology
- Prior experience in surgery/procedure scheduling is preferred
Experience
- Clerical experience and/or healthcare experience is desirable
- Must be able to work with people, maintain a poised, courteous, pleasing personality, and have a good telephone voice
- Able to meet the public and possess accurate data entry skills
Position Requirement(s)
- License/Certification/Registration: N/A
- Preferred: Working knowledge of CPT, DRG, and ICD9 codes
- Preferred: Experience coordinating with the Surgery Charge nurse and anesthesia
- Handles multiple staff requests, directs them to the most appropriate person in a timely manner
- Completes patient transportation information for transporters to receive and pick up patients in a timely manner
- Supports nursing staff lab requests using the paging system for transporter pick up and delivery
- Supports physician practices in Chattanooga, TN
