Surg Clerical Suppt Sched Specialist - Gastro Full-Time

Job Summary

The Surgery Clerical Support/Scheduling Specialist must exercise superior communication skills and filter a vast amount of information accurately, interfacing effectively with patients, physicians, and all other levels within the organization when scheduling procedures.

Education

• Required: High School education and experience in medical terminology
• Prior experience in surgery/procedure scheduling is preferred

Experience

• Clerical experience and/or healthcare experience is desirable
• Must be able to work with people
• A poised, courteous, pleasant personality, good telephone voice, and able to meet the public are required
• Accurate data entry skills with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel are preferred

• Has a working knowledge of CPT, DRG, and ICD9 codes to add-on surgical procedures the day of, through the coordination of the Surgery Charge nurse and anesthesia
• Daily coordination of calls inbound and outbound calls for the department
• Handles multiple staff requests, directing them to the most appropriate person in a timely manner to respond
• Completes patient transportation information for transporters to receive and pick up patients in a timely manner
• Supports nursing staff lab requests using the paging system for transporter pick up and delivery
