Surg Clerical Suppt Sched Specialist - Gastro Full-Time
Job Summary
The Surgery Clerical Support/Scheduling Specialist must exercise superior communication skills and filter a vast amount of information accurately, interfacing effectively with patients, physicians, and all other levels within the organization when scheduling procedures.
Education
- Required: High School education and experience in medical terminology
- Prior experience in surgery/procedure scheduling is preferred
Experience
- Clerical experience and/or healthcare experience is desirable
- Must be able to work with people
- A poised, courteous, pleasant personality, good telephone voice, and able to meet the public are required
- Accurate data entry skills with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel are preferred

- Has a working knowledge of CPT, DRG, and ICD9 codes to add-on surgical procedures the day of, through the coordination of the Surgery Charge nurse and anesthesia
- Daily coordination of calls inbound and outbound calls for the department
- Handles multiple staff requests, directing them to the most appropriate person in a timely manner to respond
- Completes patient transportation information for transporters to receive and pick up patients in a timely manner
- Supports nursing staff lab requests using the paging system for transporter pick up and delivery
