Definition
The position performs skilled field inspections of stormwater systems to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. It responds to complaints and reports of violations, such as illicit discharges, spills, and water quality concerns, and recommends action to correct. This position supports compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).
Responsibilities
- Conducts inspections of public and private properties
- Administers the City's Source Control and Pollution Prevention Assistance Programs
- Works collaboratively with property owners, businesses, and contractors to promote compliance with stormwater regulations
- Inspects active construction sites for erosion and sediment controls
- Inspects newly constructed stormwater facilities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and City standards
Requirements
- Performs inspections of surface water facilities
- Performs construction site inspections for erosion control
- Performs illicit discharge detection and elimination
- Investigates drainage complaints
- Provides general technical support in Public Works
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in stormwater management or related field
- Knowledge of stormwater regulations and best management practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Valid Washington State driver's license
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to operate GPS and GIS mapping software
- Experience with stormwater modeling tools
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Pay
Salary range: $50,000 - $60,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
