Surface Operator

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe working environment per OSHA standards throughout the plant and assist in implementing any required updated safety regulations.
• Be able to learn new equipment quickly based on a foundational understanding of CNC and grinding.
• Responsible for performing, set-up and identifying appropriate fixtures and required wheels to produce parts.
• In the event of critical absences, this individual will be able to step into a production lead position and get a process running effectively, followed by a successful handoff to operator personnel.

Secondary Responsibilities

• Provide team support and communication to all co-workers.
• Aid in the implementation of Continuous Improvement Programs.
• Coordinate with Plant/Operations Manager for up-to-date scheduling changes.
• Coordinate with Engineering for timely turnaround regarding fixturing and any required support.
• Notify Plant/Operations Manager of potential problems which could affect customer deliveries.
• Maintain 6S and Lean Manufacturing processes.
• Manage fixture and wheel inventories to ensure on-time deliveries.
• Collaborate with quality control when required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of complex carbide grinding.
• Manufacturing or process-related background.
• Experience in grinding carbide.
• Ability to develop and meet project schedules.
• Worked with engineering for part production.
• Minimum High School Education with some secondary education a plus.
• Good understanding of drafting and geometric dimensional tolerancing (GD&T).
• Good mechanical aptitude.
• A team mentality approach for all activities, the foundation of Crafts culture.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Articulate, well organized, and self-motivated.
• Organization skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
