Support Engineer

Campfront · United States · Today
RemoteRemoteInformation Technology$90k–$120k/yrFull-time

Remote, US-based full-time role focused on owning the engineering side of support. When issues arise, you’ll quickly assess, diagnose, and drive them to resolution while keeping all stakeholders informed. Since camps rely on the product during their operating season, fast response times are critical.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up camp-reported bugs, reproduce them, and drive them to resolution at a pace appropriate to each issue.
  • Triage quickly and accurately: distinguish real bugs from configuration issues or feature requests, and route each to the right owner.
  • Ship fixes you can handle independently; scope and coordinate larger issues with the team.
  • Deliver small features and improvements between bug fixes to contribute to product development, not just firefighting.
  • Work across the full stack: React with Inertia on the frontend, Ruby on Rails on the backend, and Postgres for data.
  • Monitor error tracking tools to proactively catch issues before camps report them.
  • Track all work in Linear and participate in engineering standups, reviews, and Slack discussions to help shape the product.
  • Communicate clearly with camps and internal teams, setting realistic expectations and ensuring transparency throughout the resolution process.

Requirements

  • Comfortable working across both frontend and backend in a Rails and React codebase.
  • Able to dive into unfamiliar code and trace bugs to their root cause without hand-holding.
  • Strong communicator who sets clear expectations—you’ll often interact directly with camps.
  • Available during US business hours to address in-season issues, even if the fix requires more time.
  • Hands-on coding experience with a solid understanding of what you’re shipping; AI tools assist but don’t replace your expertise.
  • Fluent with AI tools like Claude Code and Codex, with a realistic view of their strengths and limitations.
  • Familiarity with camp operations (or a strong desire to learn) to prioritize fixes effectively; any camp experience is a plus.

Logistics

  • Remote role, US-based.
  • Working hours may shift later in the summer season based on your timezone to align with camp operations.
  • Occasional availability outside normal hours for urgent issues during peak season.
  • Potential travel to industry events (e.g., ACA Tri-State, Camp Collab).

Benefits

  • Salary range: $90,000 to $120,000.
  • Health coverage.
  • Budget to set up your home office (e.g., desk, monitor, chair).
