Support Aide

Job Overview

Cleans all patient and non-patient areas of the hospital, and other areas as directed.

Essential Functions

• Dust, damp mop, spot clean and disinfect fixtures, furnishings in both patient and non-patient areas.
• Vacuum and spot clean mats and carpets, as assigned.
• Empty, clean and re-line waste baskets.
• Transport regular and contaminated waste/linen to the utility room or proper areas.
• Wash and disinfect the bed/crib at discharge and prepare the bed for the new occupant.
• Follow isolation cleaning procedures when cleaning isolation rooms to prevent the spread of pathogens.
• Clean and disinfect daily bathroom fixtures, mirrors, windows, doors, walls (as far as can be reached) and replenish bathroom supplies if necessary.
• Notifies supervisor when supplies in the Environmental Services storage room are low.
• Reports work orders when repairs are needed in assigned areas.
• Maintains tools and equipment in good condition, is responsible for economical use of supplies.
• Mechanical aptitude to operate machines and equipment may include hard floor surface maintenance, e.g. striping, refinishing, burnishing and shampooing carpets.
• Delivers clean linen throughout the facility.

  Required Skills/Abilities

  • Must know how to use common housecleaning implements such as mops, floor waxes, and scouring pads to keep areas clean and well serviced.
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
  • Work with constant concern for the safety of all people (Patient, Visitor Etc.).
  • Interacts in a positive manner with coworkers in all departments to accomplish the goals and objectives of the hospital for effective patient care.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Includes bending, stooping and stretching.

    Scheduling Requirements

    Rotating Weekends and Holidays required
    Shift working: Evenings 2:30pm-11:00pm
