Job Overview
Linen handler is responsible for preparing linen carts and distributing linens and garments in accordance with the facility procedures. This role includes all record keeping for individual units and departments. Loads and unloads bulk carts, disposable pillows, supplies and uniforms. Checks laundry orders and reports all shortages. Cuts excess linen when necessary. Communicates all necessary changes to the linen company daily. Responds to all phone requests and monitors hospital census to ensure the appropriate flow of linen is sufficient.
Qualifications
- Ability to speak, write, read and understand the English language required
- Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs
- Annual Hospital Mandatory Education Requirements
- Experienced in environmental service work
Essential Functions
- Maintains Inventory Control of Linen, including ordering bulk linen and pillows
- Maintains an account of all uniforms and lab coats
- Assembles linen, loading and unloading bulk delivery carts
- Replenishes Linen carts daily according to PAR/unit census
- Transports linen to all patient care units and ancillary departments in a timely manner
- Stores and procures laundry hampers and pillows for all departments
- Ensures adequate supply of specialty gowns for SDS, Radiology and Patient care areas
- Completes weekly linen total sheets
- Returns excess bulk linen for credit
- Reports linen shortage to CS Manager and contacts Linen company for necessary changes
- Retrieves and cleans soiled equipment as needed
- Handles telephone requests with accuracy and delivers in a timely manner
- Maintains communication with all departments and updates delivery status when necessary
- Returns all damaged linen products for repair and exchange
- Returns all empty linen carts to Cart Return Room
- Maintains the cleanliness of the linen room and all storage areas
- Restocks supplies, keys orders and keys charges as needed
