About the role

We are seeking a Supply Line Engineer to support New Product Introduction (NPI) teams focused on printed circuit boards (PCBs) used in advanced test and measurement systems. The ideal candidate will enable product design through the development of a global PCB supply base capable of supporting complex, high-reliability designs while meeting strict quality, cost, and schedule requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Influence PCB design and specifications early in the design cycle to optimize cost, manufacturability, yield, and long-term supply chain flexibility.
  • Establish and manage a global PCB supply base capable of supporting advanced technologies (e.g., HDI, high-layer-count, controlled impedance, high-speed and RF designs) while balancing operational needs.
  • Identify PCB supply chain risks (technology, capacity, quality, geography, single-source exposure) and develop mitigation strategies to enable innovation while minimizing impact to Teradyne operations.
  • Enable engineering design by ensuring PCB suppliers can support required materials, stack-ups, fabrication processes, and test technologies, while also delivering the necessary capacity and flexibility for production ramps.
  • Manage technical aspects of the PCB Supplier Audit and Qualification Process, including assessment of fabrication and assembly capabilities, process controls, reliability performance, and capacity.
  • Identify high-risk PCB components, technologies, and suppliers during NPI; work with commodity teams and design engineering to develop risk avoidance or mitigation plans, including alternate sourcing strategies.
  • Work directly with PCB suppliers to execute part qualification processes aligned to design complexity, including stack-up validation, impedance control, DFM/DFA reviews, and reliability testing.
  • Partner with global Supplier Quality Engineers to manage ongoing PCB quality and reliability issues, drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage supplier tooling, test, and inspection processes (e.g., AOI, electrical test, impedance verification) to ensure quality gates, capacity, and robustness for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Provide guidance to engineering teams on mainstream and emerging PCB technologies that support product performance, reliability, and cost targets, and assist in sourcing decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience working with PCB design, fabrication, and/or assembly for high-reliability electronic products, 5+ years of industry experience with advanced PCB technologies such as HDI, high-layer-count boards, fine-line geometries, controlled impedance, high-speed digital, and/or RF designs.
  • Strong understanding of PCB materials (e.g., FR-4 variants, high-speed laminates), stack-up design, signal integrity, power integrity, and manufacturability constraints.
  • Working knowledge of PCB fabrication and assembly processes, including drilling, plating, lamination, imaging, solder mask, surface finishes, and electrical test.
  • Experience with PCB qualification, reliability testing, and failure analysis (e.g., cross-sections, impedance failures, delamination, CAF, solder joint issues).
  • Familiarity with automation, inspection, and test methodologies used in PCB manufacturing.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • IPC-A-600 certification or equivalent experience interpreting and applying PCB acceptability standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in Mandarin for technical discussions with suppliers.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, and more.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $124,900-$199,900. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
