About the Role

This 3rd Shift Supply Chain/Materials Supervisor oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the materials department, including shipping, receiving, and inventory control. The role involves supervising forklift drivers, clerks, and directing truck traffic to ensure materials are handled efficiently and accurately. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are required, with an emphasis on safety and continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment. The supervisor collaborates with other departments to ensure smooth operations and on-time delivery of materials.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a positive work environment through teamwork and active participation in team activities.
  • Apply problem-solving skills to overcome challenges and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to company policies, including Work Plant Rules and Work Safety Rules, ensuring compliance with safety, health, and operational standards.
  • Promote and ensure adherence to safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and reporting unsafe conditions or accidents.
  • Perform daily cross-functional tasks in the assigned department according to established procedures.
  • Support and participate in lean and continuous improvement programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all work areas in alignment with 5S standards.
  • Maintain professionalism in all business communications, including radios, PA systems, and phones.
  • Supervise and manage forklift operators to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate material handling, including loading and unloading.
  • Oversee materials clerks to ensure accurate data entry, documentation, and inventory management.
  • Direct incoming and outgoing truck traffic to ensure efficient material flow, proper scheduling of deliveries, and safe loading/unloading processes.
  • Oversee accurate management of materials inventory, ensuring stock levels meet production requirements.
  • Supervise all aspects of shipping and receiving functions, ensuring timely and accurate movement of materials.
  • Schedule and coordinate raw materials to meet pilot and production requirements without overstocking.
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers regarding delivery schedules, order quantities, and material issues.
  • Manage and guide a team of Materials Specialists, forklift operators, and clerks, providing support, direction, and mentorship.
  • Provide training on new programs, processes, and safety standards.
  • Offer after-hours and weekend support as required to ensure smooth operations during off-peak times.
  • Assist with additional duties as directed by the Materials Manager or supervisor.

Requirements

  • A BS/BA degree is preferred, or a minimum of 3-5 years of directly related experience in materials management or supply chain operations.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing, logistics, or materials management environment.
  • Experience overseeing forklift operations, truck traffic coordination, and inventory management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a diverse team.
  • Proven ability to manage the logistics of shipping and receiving functions.
  • Familiarity with QAD, OEM systems, and AS400 is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand or sit for 8-12 hours a day, with occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to perform overhead work and work below the waist, as needed.
  • Must be able to move and operate materials with a forklift, as well as assist with loading/unloading tasks.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection and other task-specific safety equipment.
