About the Role
The Engineering Consulting Manager – Functional Lead (Engineering & PLM) role leads client engagements focused on engineering transformation, product development optimization, and PLM-enabled process modernization. This role is responsible for owning functional solution definition, guiding teams through requirements and process design, and ensuring PLM solutions align to engineering, business, and regulatory objectives.
Managers in this role serve as trusted advisors to a client’s engineering and product leadership, bridging strategy and execution by translating complex engineering needs into scalable technology-enabled operating models and functional designs. They help define and design the end-state product engineering organizational, operational, and technical models to enable modernization of core engineering functions and the ability to start introducing software, analytics, and cloud into the products.
Responsibilities
- Support clients across industries to address issues related to:
- Engineering transformations optimizing organization structure, new product development processes, R&D spend, and product lifecycle management systems
- Digitizing the Engineering function with technologies like Digital Thread/Twin, Robotic Process Automation, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence
- Zero-based product cost management through value analysis, value engineering, and Design to Value assessments
- Product Strategies including Product as a Service, Platform Ecosystems, and Sustainable Products
- Innovation Management and Product Portfolio Optimization balancing voice of customer and cost to serve
- Work closely with clients and internal teams to:
- Lead current state and future state analysis of engineering and product development processes, including:
- Product structure and BOM management
- Part, document, and configuration management
- Engineering change, release, and lifecycle governance
- Requirements, quality, and compliance processes
- Define end-to-end functional solution designs leveraging PLM capabilities to support business and engineering outcomes
- Own functional requirements, process models, and user stories across one or more PLM workstreams
- Guide development of Digital Thread/PLM strategies and roadmaps, including capability prioritization and phased transformation plans
- Lead current state and future state analysis of engineering and product development processes, including:
- Provide project functional leadership and solution oversight:
- Act as the functional lead for PLM and engineering transformation initiatives (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill, ENOVIA, Aras, Oracle PLM), partnering with architects and technical leads
- Oversee functional design of data models, lifecycles, workflows, and governance structures
- Ensure functional consistency across process, data, and technology decisions
- Lead or oversee testing, validation, and business acceptance activities from a functional perspective
- Manage client and stakeholder relationships:
- Serve as the primary functional point of contact for engineering, product, and business stakeholders
- Facilitate and lead executive-level and working-level workshops to drive alignment and decision-making
- Communicate complex engineering and PLM/Digital Thread concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Build and maintain strong client relationships grounded in credibility and delivery excellence
- Lead and mentor consultants and small to medium-sized teams, providing functional guidance and career development support
- Manage functional workplans, dependencies, risks, and deliverables within broader delivery programs
- Contribute to delivery governance, status reporting, and issue resolution
- Support proposal development, estimates, and functional scope definition for new work
- Challenge legacy ways of working using constructive techniques that fuel client growth
- Contribute to delivery standards, methodologies, and assets within Engineering Consulting
- Support account growth through delivery excellence, client trust, and identification of follow-on opportunities
- Act as a role model for Accenture’s values, leadership expectations, and delivery discipline
- Drive a positive impact in the communities where we work and live
Travel will be required for this role, varying from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience working on engineering improvement initiatives
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a Fortune 500 company, contributing to a dynamic and high-performance work environment
- Experience facilitating requirement-gathering workshops and process design sessions
- Strong background in product engineering, R&D, manufacturing, or engineering systems
- Experience in one or more priority client industries:
- Aerospace & Defense
- Automotive
- Consumer Goods & Services
- Medical Technology
- High Tech
- Industrial Equipment
- Experience with Engineering systems and platforms such as:
- Aras
- Dassault Systems
- Microsoft Copilot
- Oracle PLM
- PTC
- SAP PLM
- Siemens
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a consulting environment (Big 4 or global systems integrator preferred)
- Familiarity with Agile or hybrid delivery methods
- Demonstrated ability to manage teams and client stakeholders
- Experience delivering transformation involving PLM, digital thread, cloud, data, or AI-enabled engineering
- Experience related to key technologies (Digital Thread/Twin, MBSE, Robotic Process Automation, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence)
- Previous engineering experience
- Experience with CAD and PLM systems
- Experience with large-scale PLM implementations or transformations
- Ability to effectively manage and coach others
- A collaborative mindset and team player attitude
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 8 years' work experience). If Associate’s degree, must have equivalent minimum 6-year work experience. Industrial or engineering degree is preferred.
Pay
Compensation at Accenture varies depending on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The following ranges are provided as required by local law:
- California: $94,400 to $293,800
- Cleveland: $87,400 to $235,000
- Colorado: $94,400 to $253,800
- District of Columbia: $100,500 to $270,300
- Illinois: $87,400 to $253,800
- Maine: $80,400 to $216,200
- Maryland: $94,400 to $253,800
- Massachusetts: $94,400 to $270,300
- Minnesota: $94,400 to $253,800
- New York: $87,400 to $293,800
- New Jersey: $100,500 to $293,800
- Virginia: $87,400 to $270,300
