About the role

Xact Metal is hiring a Buyer-Planner to work closely with the VP-Operations, learning all aspects of manufacturing and global supply chain dynamics. This role encompasses purchasing, scheduling, inventory management, risk management, supplier relationship management, and enterprise resource planning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in forecasting and planning raw and finished materials delivery and distribution costs
  • Establish specifications for optimal purchase quantity, required quality, and cost impact on budget; competitively purchase materials and services related to production
  • Develop working knowledge of materials, material providers, and service providers to support company goals; manage suppliers to reduce costs, improve quality, control inventories, and ensure timely material flow
  • Assist in negotiating contracts covering costs, warranties, delivery, handling, and penalties for late delivery or cost overruns
  • Manage the purchasing cycle: generate requisitions, create POs, follow up on POs, receive goods, and process final payment
  • Monitor supplier delivery schedules; communicate with suppliers to expedite orders as needed
  • Manage inventory to ensure continuous production and uninterrupted material flow while minimizing inventory investment and maximizing turns
  • Monitor and report key performance metrics: Purchase Price Variance, inventories, shortages, and supplier performance
  • Maintain Material Item Masters, Bills of Materials, Routings, Production Revisions, and other ERP inputs for manufactured items
  • Work with suppliers, team members, and management to resolve materials and supply chain issues; present and evaluate process improvements

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in operations management, business management, or business administration (with a certificate in supply and/or logistics management; business management desired), or equivalent business operations experience

Physical Requirements

The role is primarily office-based but includes duties in a light manufacturing setting, requiring:

  • Regular, repetitive motions and adherence to safety protocols, including exposure to loud noises or hazardous materials (e.g., laser technology)
  • Ability to remain stationary 50% of the time and stand, walk, bend, or climb stairs 75% of the time
  • Movement between office and production areas to access files, machinery, etc.
  • Ability to lift/maneuver objects up to 5 pounds regularly and up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Vision abilities: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, color differentiation, and focus adjustment
  • Hearing abilities: distinguish sounds and focus on one source while ignoring others
  • Manual/finger/hand dexterity to handle, manipulate, and assemble small parts accurately; sufficient hand strength to operate safety equipment and tools
  • Clear speech and ability to understand others

Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the U.S. and able to report to the State College, PA office during normal work hours (and as needed).
