The What To Expect Tesla’s Supplier Quality Engineer role is responsible for:
- Diligently managing supplier accountability for part quality issues impacting production.
- Leading cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues related to Tesla electronics commodity vendors.
- Engaging with suppliers to develop short-term and long-term corrective actions, manage SCARs, and ensure their successful completion.
- Assisting in data collection and analysis to identify failure trends, collaborating with Engineering, Design, Supplier Industrial Engineering, and other teams.
- Setting priorities for suppliers based on performance and business needs, managing supply chain changes, and supporting vehicle trials.
- Improving processes, part quality, and overall efficiency through continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 5+ years of component or assembly plant experience supporting Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or similar roles in Supplier Quality, Supplier Development, Process, Quality, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Knowledge: Experience in Electronics components and PCBA manufacturing processes, Low voltage and High voltage Power electronics system, PPAP/APQP processes, and advanced knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T), Lean Manufacturing.
- Skills: Demonstrated success in applying, analyzing, and reviewing quality problem-solving methods like fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, 8D, etc., Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably automotive).
- Communication: Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities to management and executive levels, excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills, well-organized with meticulous attention to detail.
- Travel: Ability to travel domestically and internationally, sometimes on short notice.
- Environment: Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, excellent team-building skills in dealing with suppliers, peers, and other functional areas.
