About the role

The Supplier Development Quality Engineer drives improvement and corrective action in the quality of components sourced from external suppliers. This role provides technical expertise in supplier selection, establishes material acceptance criteria, and monitors supplier performance to address corrective actions, manufacturing yield issues, and field failures. Operating within a regulated quality management system, the engineer ensures full compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Supplier Assessment & Selection: Evaluate potential new suppliers for technical, quality, and manufacturing capabilities. Provide technical support during the onboarding and component introduction phases.
  • Component Qualification & Testing: Generate test protocols, oversee testing execution, issue qualification test reports, and approve components for product integration. Assist in generating and reviewing component specifications for manufacturability, quality, and reliability.
  • Inspection Procedures & Equipment: Develop, update, and maintain incoming inspection procedures. Source or design inspection tools and equipment, and train quality inspectors on standard procedures.
  • Non-Conformance & Defect Analysis: Analyze incoming material defects, determine appropriate dispositions, and drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) with external suppliers.
  • Field Failure & Yield Support: Investigate field failures and manufacturing yield issues related to supplier materials, developing and implementing corrective action plans as needed.
  • Design & Technical Support: Partner with Design Engineering to advise on component technology selection, design specifications, and quality/reliability analysis.
  • Leadership & Compliance: Lead project teams of moderate scope, mentor junior quality staff, and maintain compliance with internal policies and government regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred; other engineering disciplines accepted).
  • 3 to 6 years of related engineering work experience, including a minimum of 1 year in a dedicated Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) role.
  • Strong understanding of quality systems, incoming inspection protocols, material qualification, RCA/CAPA methodologies, and component manufacturing processes.
  • 100% onsite work arrangement. Local candidates are preferred; candidates willing to relocate quickly at their own expense will be considered.
