About the role

The Supplier Development Engineer plays a crucial role in managing supplier quality requirements and supplier development. They collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sourcing to ensure effective supplier quality practices.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and manages supplier quality development and strategy activities.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in representing Swagelok during interactions with suppliers, including executive management.
  • Performs audits of suppliers, including desk audits, site audits, and annual assessments.
  • Manages the Corrective Action process for audit findings and drives completion within expected timelines.
  • Initiates and facilitates resolution of problems related to Swagelok specifications or methods.
  • Participates in establishing and maintaining procedures, processes, and specifications related to assigned commodities and suppliers.
  • Executes the Qualified Supplier Process program by providing training and approving supplier packages.
  • Coordinates gauge or process capability studies, first article inspections, validation plans, and evaluation requests as needed.
  • Provides technical input for strategic sourcing projects, including supplier capability assessment, specification review, and support of project implementation.
  • Manages small to medium department level projects aimed at developing or improving systems and processes to meet Global Sourcing requirements and goals.
  • Trains and develops suppliers in the application of sound engineering and quality principles.
  • Provides direct internal support and acts as an internal resource regarding the performance, capability, application, and inspection methods for supplied product.
  • Participates in technical discussions with suppliers to identify and implement improvements in products and processes.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering, technical, or quality-related field required; advanced problem-solving training preferred (SPC/statistical analysis; DOE).
  • Experience: 2+ years experience (5+ years preferred) in manufacturing process design and development, quality planning or engineering, and/or quality control supervision. ASQ-CQE preferred. 6-12 months ISO/QS9000 implementation and/or auditing, or ASQ-CQA preferred; advanced problem-solving experience preferred (DOE, statistical analysis).
  • Skills/Knowledge: Strong computer skills, including basic Word, PowerPoint, and Project, and intermediate-level Excel; advanced statistical data analysis skills; working knowledge of statistical software such as NCSS, Statistica, or Minitab; strong knowledge of metrology and general mechanical inspection methods and procedures; familiarity with Total Quality and Lean Manufacturing concepts preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in preventative control planning and process validation methods, disciplined problem solving, troubleshooting quality and manufacturing systems, and auditing. Demonstrated product knowledge and expertise within assigned area.
