About the role

Harris Health is a public healthcare safety-net provider serving the residents of Harris County, Texas. We champion better health for the entire community, focusing on low-income uninsured and underinsured patients with acute and primary care, wellness, disease management, and population health services. Our network includes Ben Taub Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center), Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (Level 3 Trauma Center), and 39 clinics, health centers, specialty locations, and virtual (telemedicine) technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services for the prevention, diagnosis, habilitation, and rehabilitation of communication, swallowing, or other upper aero-digestive disorders.
  • Elective modification of communication behaviors.
  • Enhancement of communication.
  • Participation in rounds, clinics, departmental performance improvement, and clinical education.
  • Design and implementation of decision-making guidelines.
  • Incorporation of evidence-based practice in patient management.
  • Adherence to practice act, regulations, and rules, departmental policies, and documentation and reimbursement rules.
  • Management of patient appointment system and coordination with front office for service authorization, certification, and recertification.
  • Adaptability to accommodate unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety, and developmental needs of patients.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech & Hearing, Communicative Disorders, or related field.
  • Texas license through TDLR.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.
  • Basic Life Support from AHA or ARC.
  • Bilingual - Spanish, Vietnamese preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and personal computer.

Job Attributes

  • Knowledge of analytical, medical terms, research, and other skills.
  • Experience with EMR.
  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association preferred.
  • Competency in age-specific and job-specific criteria.
  • Previous experience in area of practice preferred.

  • Speech and Swallowing equipment.
  • Computer software.
  • Electronic medical record documentation.
