About the role

The Social Work Supervisor is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating one or more of the services, units or special programs at any of the sites of the NYHHS.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation, guidance and expertise to community organizations regarding Veteran and caregiver specific issues and needs.
  • Responsible for providing direct clinical and programmatic supervision to Social Work Service (SWS) GS-11 social workers in the specific program.
  • Develops a data monitoring system to measure the efficacy of the assigned program.
  • Serves as a liaison between the VA and community agencies.
  • Possess an ability to transmit advanced concepts of social work practice to establish the kind of working relationships with supervisees which is conducive to their learning in the intangible areas of self-awareness, as well as the objective and constructive use of self in relation to dealing with difficult and disturbed patients.
  • Responsible for providing help to subordinate staff in their management of their assigned units, identifying needs in-practice through review of charts and supervisory conferences.
  • Participate in Service, NYHHS, VISN, VACO, and/or community-based task forces.
  • Develops and fosters relationships with community partners to assist with system navigation, maintain collaboration and coordinate services. Provides outreach presentations to community social service agencies, military Guard and Reserve units, Veteran Service organizations and other groups on VA caregiver benefits, programs and services.
  • Collections, analyzes, and reports program data to local management, VISN, and National Program offices, Care Management and Social Work Service, Office of Patient Care Services. Evaluates program progress and outcomes and utilizes data to continuously modify and improve the program and processes.

Requirements

This job is open to current permanent Department of Veteran Affairs employees, current permanent Federal employees of other agencies and all US Citizens. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
