Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist.
Responsibilities
- Supervise professional and technical staff and oversee contractor personnel.
- Plan, assign, and review work.
- Guide, advise, coach, teach, and empower individuals and teams.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs for conservation and natural resources management, including wildland fire, endangered species, fish and wildlife, inventory, monitoring, permitting, and compliance activities.
- Provide input to the annual work plan, develop five-year plans, and make adjustments as needed for the Environmental Division.
- Prepare a variety of documents, including correspondence, reports, briefing slides, and policy statements.
- Serve as the Chief, Environmental Division, responsible for installation conservation, natural, and cultural resources management.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure continued physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Must obtain and maintain Cyber work roles at proficiency levels:
- Qualification requirements within 9 months.
- Resident qualification requirements within 12 months.
- 20 hours of Continuous Professional Development per work role code.
Qualifications

Basic Requirement:
- Have a bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
- OR have a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Specialized Experience:
- One year of specialized experience which includes:
- Working on environmental programs to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Endangered Species Act (ESA).
- Preparing or reviewing environmental documentation or permits to ensure compliance.
- Determining the impact of proposed projects on the environment or natural resources.
- This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
Education: For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone—no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program, or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
