About the role

This position serves under the general direction of the Chief, Engineering and Construction Division, carrying out mission objectives and responsibilities within the framework of appropriate directives, regulations, and policies.

Responsibilities

The Chief, Design Branch, directs a significant segment of the Corps engineering design program, serving as a senior technical advisor to the Chief, Engineering and Construction Division and District Engineer and staff regarding engineering design matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing Branch program management, personnel supervisory and nonsupervisory technical review, and administrative work necessary for the development, planning, and administration of assigned Branch functions
  • Exercising delegated resource management authority personally and through subordinates to promote productivity, effective program and resource management, and high morale
  • Developing and implementing the comprehensive training program for design facilities

Requirements

To qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations.

The basic requirement for this position is a degree in a relevant field, such as Civil Engineer 0810, Mechanical Engineer 0830, Electrical Engineer 0850, or Architect 0808 Series. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

  • GS-14 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes meeting all of the following:
    • Manage program resources, such as workload, staffing, budgets, or contracts, to support organizational objectives
    • Direct engineering design work for complex projects, including planning, coordinating, or reviewing engineering activities
    • Lead professional staff by assigning work, evaluating performance, and/or providing technical or administrative guidance
  • Selective Placement Factor: The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain license/registration as a Professional Engineer or Architect.
