Supervisory Field Investigator (Criminal Investigator V) - Black Hawk - Division of Gaming

About the role

The Division of Gaming within the Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) seeks a Supervisory Investigator to ensure honest, fair, and competitive limited gaming, free from criminal and corrupt elements. This role requires proactive patrols, investigations, and compliance inspections.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of field enforcement staff, assign caseloads, and ensure adequate staffing coverage during casino operating hours.
• Conduct complex criminal investigations, including interviewing witnesses, interrogating suspects, preparing affidavits for search and arrest warrants, and testifying in court.
• Proactively patrol casino floors as an armed peace officer to preserve the peace, deter cheating and theft, and respond to disputes and complaints.
• Lead comprehensive compliance inspections to ensure licensees, patrons, premises, records, and devices meet approved minimum guidelines and comply with Colorado Limited Gaming Regulations and Internal Control Minimum Procedures.
• Execute law enforcement duties such as issuing criminal summonses, effecting arrests, transporting prisoners to jail, and executing warrants while collecting and preserving physical and documentary evidence.
• Collaborate and augment with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request to ensure officer and gaming patron safety, while maintaining an off-duty on-call status for emergency responses.
• Initiate disciplinary actions by preparing detailed written reports for criminal prosecution and initiating appropriate disciplinary action for recommendation and presentation to the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission.
• Train and educate the gaming industry, outside law enforcement agencies, and the public, while maintaining required certifications.

Requirements

• Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant investigative experience, one (1) of which must be at the level of a work leader, staff authority, unit supervisor, or equivalent.
• Active Colorado P.O.S.T. certification at the time of applying.
• Knowledge of Colorado rules and regulations related to Division of Gaming.
• Outstanding experience leading or managing complex criminal and regulatory investigations.
• Proven ability to develop and implement investigative strategies, policies, and procedures to support regulatory and enforcement goals.
• Experience supervising investigation teams, setting performance standards, and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
• Demonstrated ability to focus on primary duties and exceptional interpersonal and team working skills.
• Experience preparing investigative reports, affidavits, and legal documentations for search and arrest warrants, and providing testimony in administrative and criminal proceedings.
• Intermediate to advanced skills on Microsoft Excel and related Microsoft Office tools, or Google Suite related products.
• Experienced in evaluating enforcement systems and recommending improvements to enhance regulatory effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Residency requirement: Only Colorado residents are eligible to apply.
• Education and experience: Combination of related education and experience in business administration, public administration, criminology, criminal justice, criminalistics, political science, police science, law enforcement, law, psychology, sociology, and/or relevant investigative experience.

Pay

Salary range: $89,316 - $111,645 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call status while off-duty for emergency and supervisory response.
