SUPERVISORY ATTORNEY-ADVISOR (GENERAL).
About the Role
Serves as the Executive Officer and Legal Advisor to the General Counsel (GC). Acts as a first-line supervisor for the Administrative Team, overseeing multiple support staff. Assists the GC and Principal Deputy General Counsel (PDGC) in managing office policies, plans, and programs to ensure the effective conduct of the mission and functions assigned to the Office of General Counsel (OGC), including management of OGC metrics and budget.
Responsibilities
- Assigns and reviews work, conducts performance appraisals for subordinates, and supports the GC and PDGC.
- Develops guidelines for the formulation of office policies, plans, and programs.
- Performs personnel duties associated with supervision, such as performance management, leave approval, training, position management, and time and attendance reporting for the OGC.
- Provides expert-level legal advice to the GC on areas including acquisition, bankruptcy, debt collection, contract pay, administrative and employment law, military pay, retired and annuity pay, civilian pay, and litigation.
- Confers with and counsels staff elements, chiefs of operating directorates, and their representatives; represents OGC at meetings.
- Liaises with other Department of Defense (DoD) agencies and the Defense Legal Services Agency (DLSA) on matters within their purview and as directed by the GC.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- This national security position requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
- Suitable for Federal employment.

Qualifications
- Requires a first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Must have professional legal experience in excess of 3 years commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position (GS-14 level).

- Moving expenses will be paid.
- Telework availability is limited and provided only on a rare case-by-case basis during situations where Agency Leadership determines it serves a compelling DoD need.
- This announcement may be used to make a temporary promotion, which could become permanent without further competition.
- As a condition of employment, you may be required to serve a 1- or 2-year trial period.
- A one-year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
- This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Travel requirement is seldom (1-24%).
- This position is not covered by a bargaining unit.

- Security designation will vary and may require a Secret clearance or higher. A background investigation may delay the starting date. Failure to obtain/maintain a favorable security determination may result in termination.
