Essential Functions

  • Clinical Leadership & Care Delivery:
    • Ensures provision of compassionate, culturally responsive spiritual care
    • Serves as a clinical and spiritual resource to all team members
    • Supports patient care delivery as needed based on operational demands
  • People Leadership & Workforce Development:
    • Supervises chaplains, volunteers, and students
    • Conducts hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and corrective action
    • Provides coaching, mentoring, and competency validation
    • Promotes professional growth and certification attainment
  • Program Oversight & Operations:
    • Supervises chapel operations, bereavement services, and resource allocation
    • Supervises daily operations, staffing, and workflow
    • Maintains policies, procedures, and compliance standards
  • Quality Improvement & Outcomes:
    • Aids in establishing performance expectations and monitoring outcomes
    • Uses data to evaluate program effectiveness and drive improvements
    • Ensures documentation meets organizational standards
    • Ensures alignment with organizational quality and patient experience goals
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration & System Integration:
    • Integrates spiritual care into patient care through interdisciplinary collaboration
    • Participates in committees and organizational initiatives
    • Supports system-level problem solving and process improvement
    • Buils partnerships across the organization
  • Strategic & Community Engagement:
    • Led program development and innovation
    • Expands services to meet patient and organizational needs
    • Builds relationships with community faith organizations

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, or related field required
  • Minimum of 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years spiritual care experience required
  • Current accountability to a religious tradition/denominational group required
  • Progressive leadership experience, including supervision and program management preferred
  • Experience in a pediatric healthcare setting preferred

Skills And Abilities

  • Strong understanding of spiritual care practices and diverse faith traditions
  • Leadership, emotional intelligence and crisis management skills
  • Ability to manage operations and program growth
  • Ability to work with those with diverse spiritual understanding and needs

Licenses and Certifications

  • BCC - Board Certified Chaplain by a recognized professional organization (e.g. APC, NACC, NAJC or ACPE) within 1 year is required
