Supervisor, Securities Valuation Office
About the role
The Securities Valuation Office (SVO) of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is seeking a Supervisor to lead and manage a team of credit analysts. This role involves supervising workloads, performance, productivity, and analytic quality, reviewing and approving analyst work, and performing independent credit and research analysis. The Supervisor will serve as a primary analyst in an assigned area and as a member of the Senior Credit Committee. This is a full-time hybrid position requiring residency within 100 miles of the New York, New York office.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of credit analysts in performing analytical functions, including assigning responsibilities and monitoring progress to ensure timely completion of work.
- Assess backlog status and productivity measures monthly, and manage team workflow.
- Provide updates on major trends in workflow, credit, or types of securities submitted.
- Benchmark performance criteria, exceed minimum productivity goals, maintain analysis standards, and meet timeliness goals.
- Mentor and provide on-the-job training for credit analysis and professional development.
- Align with the organization's vision and inspire others to achieve it.
- Keep subordinates and superiors informed of activities, successes, and concerns.
- Perform credit and pricing analysis of assigned sectors of corporate or municipal security issuers to establish and document appropriate credit risk designations and/or prices.
- Prepare credit reports and make verbal presentations to the credit committee.
- Participate as a member of the Senior Credit Committee, reviewing and approving credit analysis work product across the group.
- Provide guidance, assistance, and mentoring to others in their analyses.
- Identify and participate in internal and external professional development opportunities to broaden the team's analytical skill set.
- Cultivate a better understanding of state regulations and the needs of state regulators.
- Produce or review the team's research covering important industry trends/issues in the portfolio that may be important to regulators.
- Respond to informational requests from regulators, insurers, NRSROs, investment bankers, and fellow analysts.
- Keep the SVO Director and Manager informed of specific requests from Regulators/Insurance Departments and insurers.
- Actively participate in NAIC and department projects.
Management Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the performance of a team of credit analysts and, as necessary, interns and/or contingent staff.
Requirements
- Master's degree (M.A.), M.B.A. in Finance or equivalent, and/or CFA.
- 15+ years of related experience, with at least 10+ years of fundamental credit analysis, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/365, Slack, Bloomberg, and similar software; advanced programming capabilities are a significant plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the United States for member meetings and events, including overnight and out-of-state travel.
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; sponsorship for an employment Visa is not available at this time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing credit analysis at a Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organization (NRSRO or "credit rating agency").
- Prior supervisory experience.
Pay
$169,948 - $250,000, commensurate with education and experience.
