About the role
The Scope Processing Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of endoscope and related equipment cleaning and disinfection in medical procedures. This role involves adhering to strict protocols to prevent infections and uphold high standards of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminates all endoscopes and probes according to manufacturer's guidelines (IFU).
- Assembles and delivers intubation trays.
- Ensures all equipment is properly covered during transfer between reprocessing areas.
- Reprocesses endoscopes using Automated Endoscopic Reprocessor (AER) units.
- Monitors chemical levels in the GUS system according to High Level Disinfectant (HLD) IFU instructions.
- Maintains cleanliness and restocks the department throughout the shift.
- Attends in-service and department meetings.
- Aids and educates new staff on endoscopy equipment.
- Donates and doffs personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.
- Completes annual skills and competency assessments per hospital policy/procedure.
- Communicates professionally and accurately documents tasks.
- Fulfills professional development goals through formal and informal continuing education.
- Supports continuous customer satisfaction through adherence to hospital-wide service excellence standards.
- Complies with Joint Commission and hospital standards.
- May travel to other scope processing departments/areas as needed.
- Updates and provides inventory reports to the department and stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Specialized/technical training as a Surgical Technologist or Sterile Processing Technician, effective June 15th, 2026.
- One year of experience in an OR/SPD/GI environment, preferred.
- One year of endoscopic scope processing experience, preferred.
- Knowledge of handling and cleaning of medical equipment and related supplies.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City), if not obtained upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD), effective June 15th, 2026.
