About the Role

Leads an assigned production team to achieve goals and problem solve while demonstrating a commitment to employee safety, teamwork, and product quality. Responsible for product processing, packaging, and storage in compliance with FDA, USDA, and Simmons rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of front-line employees, effectively communicating and motivating to drive productivity and achieve company goals.
  • Supervises employees to maintain discipline, teamwork, and safety, ensuring daily production requirements are met.
  • Handles scheduling, tracks attendance, and reviews and approves time off for direct reports.
  • Responsible for work effort and appraisal of personnel.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in processing and/or development of a product or service.
  • Maintains inventory records and requisitions ingredients/supplies to meet delivery schedules.
  • Evaluates materials and products to maintain organizational standards.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities between departments.
  • Manages and utilizes various production reports, reviewing daily production against customer requirements.
  • Interprets and manages reports such as throughput, yield, etc., to meet production requirements while maintaining appropriate line speeds and efficiency.
  • Completes all paperwork in accordance with established time frames or record-keeping requirements.
  • Emphasizes and promotes a safe work environment, complying with Simmons, OSHA, and government safety regulations.
  • Fosters a continuous improvement culture, applying LEAN concepts to drive out waste and improve processes.
  • Ensures quality performance meets or exceeds all line, department, facility, company, and USDA/FDA guidelines.
  • Collaborates with operations teams such as Human Resources, Safety, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Finance, and Shipping to maximize processing of high-quality products at the lowest cost.
  • Directs and supervises employees’ work activities, monitors performance, and recommends compensation decisions.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to screen, interview, hire candidates, and administer disciplinary actions.
  • Promotes a cooperative and harmonious work environment to facilitate positive employee morale and productivity.
  • Participates in team development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
  • Attends team meetings and fosters cohesiveness on major issues such as direction, annual plans, and policy changes.
  • Identifies areas lacking cohesiveness and works to resolve issues in a supportive manner.
  • Familiar with Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understands the role in supporting these systems.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.

Requirements

  • Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource management, leadership, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Familiarity with computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Preferred experience within a food processing organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of related work experience with a minimum of 1 year in a leading role.
