Purpose
Works with and oversees other members of the Police and Security Team to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees at the hospital facility. In addition to performing as a member of the Police and Security Team, this position also handles administrative tasks, supervises other police and security members, and works harmoniously with hospital management to meet safety goals.
Responsibilities
- Assists in and provides input to staffing decisions (e.g., hiring, firing, promotion).
- Handles and resolves day to day operational issues and problems.
- Assists with department budget preparation and monitoring.
- Responsible for evaluating, disciplining and scheduling staff as appropriate.
- Provides reporting as needed.
- Maintains a working relationship with local agencies.
- Reviews reports of subordinates for accuracy, content, and grammar as needed.
- Trains staff, ensures that staff obtain and maintain certifications as required and tracks certification progress.
- Maintains all security systems and department issued equipment.
Requirements
- 6 years of security related/law enforcement experience OR Act 120 trained or equivalent (PA State Police Act Police Academy training, Police Officer training as mandated by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers) with 2 years of experience in law enforcement or a security related field.
- Prior lead or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Prior law enforcement experience is preferred.
- Good knowledge of common technical applications, such as Microsoft Office products, preferred.

- Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life.
- Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.
- Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.
- Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to pass an eye and hearing test with appropriate correction.
- Must be able to perform as a security officer when necessary.
Skills
