Supervisor-Operational Accounting

Primary Purpose

Responsible for the supervision of operational accounting, including month end close processes, internal reporting, financial analysis, billing, budgeting, and forecasting. The position is also responsible for assisting with/providing information for financial reporting, both internal and external (FERC and SEC), ensuring that the system of internal controls is followed and to support the Manager of Operational Accounting position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop commercial and technical understanding of Tallgrass physical assets, products, and services.
  • Maintain strong relationships with operational teams including scheduling and commercial.
  • Create accounting processes for new assets and/or segments that are efficient.
  • Research, document and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Aid in internal process improvements for multiple operational segments.
  • Contribute in software implementations and upgrades.
  • Supervise the daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly accounting functions for operational accounting to ensure compliance with FERC and GAAP accounting.
  • Aid in the preparation of monthly forecasts and yearly budgets for management.
  • Review and approve Senior and Staff Accountant work products including journal entries, billing and account reconciliations.
  • Cookordination and ensure compliance with operational accounting close schedule and reporting deadlines.
  • Provide information for financial and operational internal and external audits.
  • Aid in Sarbanes/Oxley 404 implementation and compliance as it relates to operational accounting.
  • Support effective communication and administration of pertinent financial functions.
  • Respond to complex questions related to regulatory and financial inquires.
  • Regularly use excel spreadsheets, Quorum, Oracle, PowerBI, and periodically learn new software programs.
  • Monitor and analyze reports, research financial variances from budget and prior year and provide explanations for such variances.
  • Ensure effective communication and administration of pertinent financial functions.
  • Work with various internal departments to accomplish individual, departmental and company goals.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Complete ad hoc projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience.
  • A proven track record of hiring, evaluating and development of accounting professionals and clerical help.
  • A fundamental understanding of accounting and financial principles.
  • A general understanding and demonstrated ability with computerized accounting systems, financial modeling, budgets, operations analysis, and management reporting.
  • An intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position will be $100,000-$130,000/yr.
