Pay
The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position: $77.910 – $100.530 – $112.590 per hour. Actual pay rate and pay grade will depend on years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and employer business practices.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and 24-hour responsibility for personnel and assure the quality of clinical nursing care of ED patients.
- Coordinate care for patients and families in the Emergency Department, including planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating staff and care activities.
- Accountable for scheduling, coordinating, and maintaining resources necessary on a specific shift daily, weekly, and monthly.
Essential Functions
- Data management: Contribute to meeting budgeted salary expense per unit of service. Identify and/or participate in implementation of cost-reducing or revenue-enhancing ideas. Utilize supplies in a cost-effective manner to support delivery of care within budgeted supply expense per unit of service. Improve systems and processes to enhance staff performance and reduce overall cost of care.
- Human resource management:
- Ensure clinical competencies, patient care, and family issues are addressed.
- Oversee documentation quality, content, and compliance.
- Support staff and leadership development.
- Foster teamwork and communication.
- Participate in meeting attendance and engagement.
- Supervise employees and provide feedback according to Sharp HealthCare’s Employee Performance Management Process.
- Manage interview, selection, and hiring processes.
- Leadership:
- Contribute to the leadership team with creative thinking and innovation to enhance patient care and operational efficiencies.
- Participate in a leadership position on an internal quality improvement committee or task force.
- Lead specialty services by lending clinical expertise and assisting in growth, development, and quality measurement.
- Process improvement:
- Collaborate with other disciplines/departments to resolve identified issues.
- Assist staff in problem-solving and prioritization of patient care.
- Collaborate with physicians to resolve identified issues.
- Demonstrate resolution of operational issues as negotiated with manager.
- Identify bio-ethical dilemmas and initiate appropriate responses.
- Quality:
- Identify and develop action plans to resolve quality issues in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Specialist and interdisciplinary care team members.
- Identify clinical learning needs and implement plans to ensure learning is achieved.
- Implement systems to inform and monitor staff compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Achieve and maintain specialty certification in clinical area of practice.
- Participate in the evaluation of data pertinent to patient care outcomes, including quality variance reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- 5 years of ED clinical nursing experience, with at least one year in a leadership role.
- California Registered Nurse (RN) license – CA Board of Registered Nursing (REQUIRED).
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – American Heart Association (REQUIRED).
- ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – American Heart Association (REQUIRED).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association (REQUIRED).
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification – Various (Employee provides certificate) (REQUIRED).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) – Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN).
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Various (Employee provides certificate).
