Supervisor - Maintenance

About the role

Vaagen Bros. Lumber Inc. is a family‑owned wood products manufacturer that has operated in northeastern Washington for over 70 years. The company is undergoing a Lean transformation and operates sawmills in Colville and Usk, WA, employing over 175 employees. The Supervisor position in the Maintenance Department leads the team, creates a culture of teamwork and cooperation between major processing segments, and integrates operating personnel with maintenance staff. The successful candidate will elevate company practices, achieve production goals, solve problems, and work closely with team members across all mill sites with a continued focus on safety and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Promote safety to team members and lead by example in putting safety first.
• Coach, teach, and train team members, including documentation, disciplinary actions, hiring, training, project management, maintenance, schedules, and coordination with other departments.
• Attend a variety of daily huddles to support maintenance and organization goals.
• Conduct weekly Gemba walks with the Plant Manager and occasional Gemba walks with other team members.
• Create, track, and achieve maintenance metric goals.
• Ensure team members’ schedules align with equipment availability.
• Create pride, ownership, and trust within the department and among operating departments.
• Analyze causes and implement corrective action on repetitive or major problems.
