About the role

The District Office seeks a Supervisor - Logistics to oversee the receipt, inventory, inspection, distribution, transportation, and storage of all BCPSS school furniture. This role also involves arranging for transportation of books and computers to and from schools.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, and participates in the receipt, inspection, storage, and distribution of furniture, materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Makes frequent coordination with administration and management staff regarding logistic services.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the budget for all services under the supervision of the department.
  • Develops methods of determining manpower requirements and creates reports and procedures to support these methods.
  • Assists in planning a system-wide program for receiving and distributing furniture, supplies, and materials.
  • Processes requests for materials and supplies from warehouse and vice versa, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Coordinates with department buyers to ensure requests for furniture are prioritized from warehouse inventory before purchasing new items.
  • Manages labor and transportation services for office and intra-office moves involving non-warehouse items like computers and books.
  • Utilizes storage facilities efficiently and oversees the reclamation, reconditioning, disposal, and recycling of salvaged materials.
  • Arranges for the transportation and receipt of acquired surplus and donated property.
  • Makes recommendations for new or revised procedures and interprets established policies and procedures for assigned staff.
  • Reviews work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental rules, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Makes recommendations for improved and safer work methods and procedures, and supervises their implementation.
  • Develops and maintains work standards for subordinate employees.
  • Communicates, interprets, and enforces policies, procedures, and regulations of BCPSS as they relate to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Identifies and inventories non-stock supplies, materials, surplus equipment, and furniture, and reissues them as needed.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports relative to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Conducts physical inventory counts as necessary.
  • Anticipates and resolves problems and provides updates to immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years' experience in logistics or materials management, including supervisory/management responsibility.
  • Additional related full-time experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the education requirement.
  • Broad-based knowledge of supply and demand processes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with all levels of employees, members of senior management, and external constituents.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple and conflicting interests.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and mediation skills, including the ability to develop and lead a diverse staff.
  • Proficiency in using technical computer applications, including computerized inventory systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
