Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the Payroll and Benefit Services Unit (PBSU).
• Supervise and evaluate subordinate staff who provide the full range of personnel, payroll, disability, and benefit services to assigned Program/Unit employees.
• Observe assignments; communicate and coordinate training; manage and direct special projects.
• Assist with the development of work plans and monitor deadlines.
• Direct the workload of Analyst I/II’s, Senior Personnel Specialists (Sr. PS), and supporting staff such as Personnel Specialist (PS), Retired Annuitant (RA), and Student Assistant (SA) positions.
• Assist staff with day-to-day payroll and benefit services, including State Disability Insurance (SDI) and Non-Industrial Disability Insurance (NDI).
• Speak publicly at program meetings, staff trainings, and quarterly Attendance Coordinator (AC) and Personnel Liaison (PL) Meetings.

Pay

The salary range for this SUPERVISOR I classification is $7,172.00 - $8,910.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. The position is subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay by 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect this salary reduction.
