Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Maintains standards of patient care and manages unplanned events occurring during the shift toward a successful outcome.
- Assists in and makes recommendations to Department Directors in the process of long term discipline, retention, termination, and performance evaluation.
- Assists in maintaining the Hospital’s and Nursing Service’s philosophy through effective nursing care.
- Makes staffing adjustments to meet patient care needs.
- Approves overtime.
- Controls staff by taking appropriate and corrective action.
- Immediately investigates patient care incidents.
- Maintains effective communication with the staff and Nursing Administration.
- Promotes interdepartmental relationships.
- Ensures that Nursing Services policies and procedures are followed.
- Maintains and submits required records and associated reports.
- Directs and coordinates the functions of subordinates.
- Captures and coordinates maintenance of safe and satisfactory working conditions for the staff.
- Maintains a high morale among subordinates by treating staff in a dignified manner, taking appropriate action with the staff and keeping staff informed of matters.
- Maintains the established pattern of duties, authority, and responsibility.
- Promotes the proper functioning of line organization.
- Cooperates with other Departments and provides for coordinated patient care services.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Actively participates in in-service and continuing education.
- Promotes good public relations with patients, visitors and the community.
- Responds immediately to all crises or calls for assistance as needed.
Requirements
- Must have current RN license in the State of Michigan
- Must have had at least two (2) years of nursing experience
- BLS Certification through American Heart or American Red Cross
- ACLS Certification within 3 months of accepting position
Preferred
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing
- Supervisory experience
