RN House Supervisor Registered Nurse
Job Summary
The House Supervisor/Bed Management Coordinator provides clinical supervision, leadership, and support to staff. He/she is responsible for assignment of patient care beds within the hospital and resource management to ensure delivery of age-specific, direct patient care.
Essential Functions
- Functions as on-site administrator during off-hours and holidays providing leadership consistent with the hospital’s mission, vision, and values
- Anticipates and manages barriers to quality care
- Sets up and deploys staff as per unit-based metrics; provides supervision and clinical consultation to staff
- Collaborates with leadership and department directors to address issues of continuity and quality of care
- Facilitates patient throughput with an ongoing focus on quality and efficiency
- Utilizes approved Unit Specific Admission and Discharge Criteria to assure patient admissions and bed assignments are consistent with current policy and procedure
- Collaborates with multiple departments within the hospital and facilitates regularly scheduled bed management meetings with hospital staff to identify and communicate bed utilization issues
- With inpatient coordinators and clinical staff ensures timely and smooth discharges
- Escalates medical necessity issues, admission status issues, and bed assignment conflicts through the established chain of command
- Communicates bed placement issues to appropriate leadership, nurses, physicians, and ancillary staff
- Identifies, trends, and reports barriers to patient throughput. Oversight of Emergency Room Metrics around patient flow and responds appropriately to surge protocols regarding wait times and management of the Heat Map
- Responds to delays in ED Hold times and facilitates timely transfers of inpatients to the clinical units
- Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory and legal standards related to staff clinical performance, supervision, and standards of patient care
- Actively monitors patients with Core Measures diagnoses to ensure Core Measures remain at 100th percentile; completes independent check of all Core Measure discharges, reinforces compliance, and provides education to staff
- Manages conflict effectively and enhances communication between departments to facilitate safe, effective patient care
- Communicates effectively with physicians, other providers, patients, and families
- Promotes internal and external customer satisfaction
- Buils and promotes a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Nurse Licensure and American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification required; ACLS required within 6 months
- Bachelor’s Degree, minimum 3-5 years progressive management experience, acute care experience, PALS or ENPC preferred
