About the Role
DHL is seeking a Customs Brokerage Supervisor to oversee customs clearance activities, ensuring compliance with federal and foreign regulations for imported and exported products. This role involves managing a team of approximately 30 employees, including two direct reports, and optimizing operations for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Manages and coordinates customs clearance activities in a customs house brokerage or gateway environment efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products.
- Establishes, monitors, and revises policies, procedures, and service standards for customs clearance operations.
- Ensures consistent administration of all policies and procedures.
- Responsible for meeting key performance indicator targets for assigned products.
- Supervises a staff of approximately 30, including hiring, coaching, training, and developing subordinate staff.
- Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Examines documents such as invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements to verify tariffs, price conversions, weight, and volume of merchandise.
- May contact customs officials to obtain release of incoming freight and resolve delays.
Qualifications
- Customs Brokerage License preferred.
- Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in customs brokerage or related business area.
- Advanced understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to common problems and situations.
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures related to quality and productivity improvements, training, budgeting, and cost control.
- General understanding of basic supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary action.
- Typically requires a BS/BA and 3-5 years of experience in a related field, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
- Professional certification may be required in some areas.
