Responsibilities
- Manages and coordinates customs clearance activities in the customs house brokerage or gateway environment efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Ensures compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products through all DHL facilities.
- Establishes, monitors, and revises policies, procedures, and service standards for customs clearance operations.
- Ensures all policies and procedures are consistently administered.
- Responsible for meeting key performance indicator targets for a given product.
- Supervises a staff of approximately 30 with two direct reports, including hiring, coaching, training, and developing subordinate staff.
- Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes.
- Verifies tariffs, price conversions, weight, and volume of merchandise exported/imported to/from foreign destinations.
- Examines documents such as invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements.
- Contacts customs officials to obtain release of incoming freight and resolve delays.
Requirements
- Complete understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in function or business area.
- Advanced understanding of specific aspects of work supervised and practical application to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
- Knowledge and effective use of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures relative to quality and productivity improvements, training, budgeting, cost control, and progressive techniques in area of specialization.
- General understanding of basic supervisory approaches for work direction, motivation, and disciplinary action.
- BS/BA and 3-5 years’ experience in a related field, including at least one year of supervisory experience.
- Professional certification required in some areas.
