Full-time, 3rd shift position (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM) with on-call requirements for weekends and holidays. Minimal travel expected for meetings.
About the Role
Supervise and coordinate the activities of Lead Persons, Floor & Project Technicians, and Housekeepers engaged in cleaning and maintaining UPMC premises. Assign tasks, inspect completed work for conformance to standards, oversee supply and equipment distribution, and resolve employee problems or escalate to the Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Ensure discharges in area of responsibility are completed within one hour from assignment.
- Attend all mandatory departmental and hospital in-services.
- Maintain daily contact with head nurses and/or unit clerks to discuss opportunities.
- Fulfill all legitimate requests promptly to uphold a high reputation for service.
- Present the department positively to patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel.
- Submit work orders for all applicable maintenance repairs in assigned areas.
- Regularly check assigned areas to ensure personnel are performing work and following schedules.
- Reinforce positive behavior or address issues through praise or corrective action.
- Ensure sufficient supplies and equipment are available.
- Complete the Supervisor’s Development Program.
- Prepare sign-in sheets at least one week in advance.
- Start shifts on time and arrange adequate coverage using personnel effectively.
- Ensure all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers.
- Oversee Lead Housekeepers, Housekeepers, and Floor and Project Technicians.
- Work under pressure to handle difficult situations as they arise.
- Prepare administrative and employee documentation, monitor records and performance, and meet deadlines.
- Make recommendations for and assist with corrective action under the Operations Manager’s guidance.
- Approve PTO for assigned staff within departmental guidelines.
- Carry and answer a 24-hour pager.
- Perform assigned duties during internal and external disasters, fires, and drills.
- Act as a liaison between all shifts with no noted communication problems.
- Complete a minimum of 5 inspections daily using Pocket PC Technology.
- Keep equipment clean and in good running order at all times.
- Inspect 10% of all discharges when assigned to patient areas.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3 years of relevant experience required.
- 1 year of relevant leadership experience required.
- Knowledge and familiarity with chemical use and dilution rates.
- Basic computer knowledge, including familiarity with MS Office.
