About the role
The Environmental Supervisor at MercyOne Dubuque is responsible for providing effective leadership, guidance, and supervision of the daily functions of Environmental Services. This position requires previous experience of 3-5 years in environmental services/housekeeping, including 1-2 years in a leadership/supervisory role, preferably in a hospital setting. Formalized training in environmental cleaning programs and safety methodology is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Plans, assigns, and monitors colleague work performance to achieve efficient and effective departmental operations.
- Aids the Director in developing and implementing policies and procedures that ensure safety and cleanliness, compliance with Mercy Medical Center policies, Joint Commission (TJC) standards, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Schedules, places, trains, evaluates, and disciplines staff members.
- Ensures efficient and effective cleaning duties by adjusting staff to changing workloads, providing orientation, and thoroughly training staff in safe hospital housekeeping techniques and equipment use.
- Delegates work tasks to appropriate staff, evaluates supply needs, and orders supplies as needed.
- Schedules routine unit inspections after discharge cleaning and daily room cleaning to ensure hospital quality standards are met.
- Corrects deficiencies in a timely manner, conducts rounds of all areas to identify opportunities for improvement and equipment/facility needs, and ensures all equipment is safe, clean, and in proper working condition.
- Requests or completes repairs and maintenance of building or equipment as necessary, and submits repair orders as needed.
Requirements
- Previous experience of 3-5 years in environmental services/housekeeping, including 1-2 years in a leadership/supervisory role, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Formalized training in environmental cleaning programs and safety methodology preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper and safe chemical use and handling.
- General working knowledge of computers and department-specific software helpful (e.g., HealthStream, Word, Excel, Outlook; internet/intranet).
- Ability to use other software as required to perform essential functions of the job.
- Valid driver's license.
- Compliance with Trinity Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associates degree preferred.
