About the role
Responsible for leading and supervising the technical execution of ecological restoration programs in intervened areas within the mining operation, ensuring the functional recovery of ecosystems in tropical environments. The role is highly operational (“hands-on”) in the field and includes implementing strategies for revegetation, soil reconstruction, functional hydrology, and assisted ecological succession, guaranteeing compliance with environmental commitments established in the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and international sustainability standards. Additionally, the role leads technical restoration teams, promoting high standards of safety, performance, and technical excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the execution of ecological restoration and rehabilitation programs for intervened areas.
- Design and implement strategies for revegetation, nursery management, ecological succession, and recovery of ecosystem services.
- Coordinate field activities such as planting, soil rehabilitation, and implementation of restoration processes in tropical ecosystems.
- Apply quantitative ecological monitoring methodologies (BACI, reference trajectories, functional indicators) to evaluate the progress and success of programs.
- Supervise technical teams and field brigades (up to 20 people), ensuring performance, safety, and technical quality.
- Validate and analyze ecological data, ensuring proper management in environmental systems and platforms.
- Ensure compliance with ESIA commitments and the Environmental Management System.
- Manage schedules, resources, and planning of restoration activities.
- Coordinate with operational areas for the delivery and rehabilitation of intervened areas.
- Participate in environmental audits, regulatory inspections, and validation processes with authorities.
- Prepare technical reports and present environmental performance results.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated environmental restoration management.
Requirements
- Professional degree in biology, ecology, environmental engineering, forestry, or related fields.
- Experience in:
- Ecological restoration of intervened areas
- Mining or industrial projects
- Work in tropical ecosystems
- Experience in process-based restoration:
- Soil reconstruction
- Functional hydrology
- Assisted ecological succession
- Recovery of ecosystem services
- Proficiency in quantitative ecological monitoring methodologies and data analysis.
- Experience leading technical teams and field operations in remote environments.
- Proficiency in QGIS or similar GIS tools.
- Driver’s license.
- Intermediate to advanced English level.
- Experience in preparing technical reports and environmental management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of international restoration and biodiversity standards:
- Net Positive Impact (NPI)
- Society for Ecological Restoration (SER)
- IFC Performance Standard 6
- Experience in nursery management and propagation of native species.
- Experience in environmental audits and regulatory compliance.
