Supervisor, Data Center Operations

About the role

As a Data Center Supervisor, you will oversee day-to-day data center operations to ensure reliable, 24/7 performance. This role includes managing staffing, testing and maintaining facility infrastructure, and ensuring consistent service delivery and quality standards. You will be responsible for all hardware assets, including both company-owned and customer-owned equipment, and will drive ongoing operational improvements. The position also involves documenting, tracking, and resolving issues in a timely manner to maintain system stability. Success in this role requires managing multiple projects simultaneously and coordinating effectively with internal teams and external partners in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Coordinate and supervise data center activities, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
  • Implement and enforce best practices for infrastructure maintenance, hardware management, and environmental monitoring.
  • Monitor power usage, cooling, and space capacity to ensure efficiency and prevent system failures.
  • Maintain and update documentation related to policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Supervise and mentor a team of technicians, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Provide quality internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values.
  • Maintain staffing plan to meet business needs and objectives.
  • Define employee goals and objectives.
  • Deliver employee communications through regularly scheduled group meetings, one-on-one sessions, and yearly reviews.
  • Assist with new hire interviewing and review support capabilities and establish plans to improve staff performance.
  • Oversee and drive projects to on-time completion.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities.

Monitoring & Equipment Maintenance

  • Oversee preventative maintenance schedules for electrical, mechanical, and cooling systems.
  • Work with vendors and contractors for equipment installations, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Monitor and respond to alerts related to power, cooling, and IT infrastructure.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability.

Incident Management & Troubleshooting

  • Respond to and resolve technical issues, system failures, or emergency situations efficiently.
  • Coordinate with all Tierpoint teams to address system failures and service interruptions.
  • Document root cause analysis and follow-up actions for recurring issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, connectivity, and environmental issues.

Security & Compliance

  • Adhere to data center security policies, standard operating procedures, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment changes, incidents, and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards such as PCI, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Work with compliance teams to prepare for audits and implement necessary corrective actions.

Qualifications

General

  • A minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in a technology-based customer support role in a mission-critical operations environment.
  • Previous leadership or mentoring experience.
  • A solid understanding of the data center industry.
  • Ability to coordinate projects and programs to ensure that all elements meet the Tierpoint quality standards.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others while exercising independent judgment.
  • Proficiency with common business applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Visio, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-moving, team-oriented, collaborative environment with tight deadlines.

Facilities

  • Proactively assess data center facility requirements and capacity planning.
  • Coordinate and oversee regular testing and preventive maintenance of critical facilities infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of critical facilities infrastructure (mechanical, electrical, fire suppression, security, etc.).
  • Understanding of building management systems and controls.
  • Understanding of data center best practices (hot-aisle / cold-aisle cabinet placement, service space requirements, power distribution, network cabling, etc.).

Technical

  • Ability to create documentation and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues effectively.
  • Ability to provide basic troubleshooting for different technical and facility issues.
  • Solid understanding of IT security, networking, and IT systems.

Preferred Experience

  • Applicable IT or mission-critical certifications.
  • Prior experience in the mission-critical industry.

  • Ability to work in controlled environments and handle physical tasks such as lifting hardware or navigating confined spaces.

Pay

Pay Range: $55,500.00 – $90,535.45
