Supervisor, Contract Logistics (1st Shift) - Willoughby OH
Manages the daily activities of a warehouse to provide high customer service, working efficiency, safety, and low operational costs. Provides leadership, motivation, training, and development for the team under the direction of an Operations Manager or General Manager. Supervises warehouse personnel, scheduling, equipment utilization, and facility operations while applying the APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model to enhance business processes and eliminate waste.
Responsibilities
- Operations Management & Compliance
- Provide operational support and act as first-line supervisor for transactional operations.
- Coordinate unloading of shipments using established procedures.
- Verify accuracy of inbound/outbound shipments.
- Ensure damaged product reports and documentation are complete and filed.
- Track load status and scheduled departures hourly and daily.
- Prepare and generate warehouse productivity reports for management.
- Control cycle counts to ensure accuracy.
- Monitor product disposition and assist in physical inventories.
- Inspect damaged cartons and document concealed damage.
- Safety, Sanitation, and Security
- Promote and maintain a safety awareness program.
- Schedule and conduct safety meetings; ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Ensure subordinates meet training requirements and comply with CT-PAT and security policies.
- Apply 5S Lean methodology to sustain a safe, clean, and orderly facility.
- Process Improvement
- Apply the APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model to improve business processes, increase proficiency, and eliminate waste.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives to meet or exceed budget requirements.
- People Management
- Provide ongoing training and orientations to ensure compliance with company policies.
- Recommend personnel actions (hiring, firing, promotions, increases).
- Use documented corrective disciplinary measures in a timely manner.
- Ensure direct and indirect reports receive frequent performance feedback, including a 90-day assessment and annual formal review.
- Maintain an environment of development and recognition.
- Coordinate personnel scheduling to ensure proper staffing for receiving and distributing products.
- Monitor attendance, tardiness, and productivity.
- Key Result Areas
- Apply 5S Lean methodology to design, attain, and maintain a high level of housekeeping and work process organization.
- Ensure compliance with all Federal and State OSHA and company safety requirements to maintain an injury- and accident-free work environment.
- Identify and implement processes to meet or exceed budget requirements.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives impacting the facility and company.
Requirements
- Licenses and Certifications
- Forklift Equipment Certification.
- General Experience
- At least 1 year of lead or supervisory experience in a warehouse environment.
- Familiarity with warehouse management, operations, and equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of inventory control management and distribution service operations.
- Ability to effectively schedule labor and carriers.
- Ability to train and enforce company safety programs, including OSHA regulations.
- Computer proficiency (PC and software).
- 2-3 years of previous warehouse experience preferred.
- Spanish-speaking ability is a plus.
- Managerial Experience
- At least 1 year of experience supervising and directing people and resources to achieve specific results within limited timeframes.
Pay
The typical starting salary range for this position is $52,500 - $62,500. The actual salary offer will consider factors such as skills, experience, education, and location. This reflects base salary only, not total compensation, which includes bonus and benefits.

Schedule
Work location requirements vary by role and proximity to an APL Logistics Hub Office (AZ, FL, MI, NC, OR):
- Employees within 25 miles of a hub may follow a hybrid schedule, reporting to the office 8 days per month as scheduled by their supervisor.
- Warehouse roles are typically fully on-site.
- Candidates outside the 25-mile radius may be considered for fully remote roles, depending on business needs.
- Remote work requires compliance with company policies, including workspace standards, timekeeping, and communication protocols.
