Supervisor, Communications Services
Location: North Fort Myers, FL
Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
About the role
This position supervises Communications Services personnel responsible for performing construction, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency maintenance activities to support LCEC electric operations. Supervision includes work management, technical mentoring, technical review of work products, oversight of employee development, issuing work assignments, performance plan development and review, and coaching associated with employee performance. The role oversees bargaining-unit employees.
Responsibilities
- Perform managerial and supervisory duties in conformance with company expectations.
- Maintain a safe, productive work environment that meets LCEC quality standards and policy.
- Participate in monthly safety and information meetings, including facilitating meetings as scheduled.
- Ensure accurate time reporting for all pay codes, work requests, damage claims, and compliance with bargaining-unit contract and LCEC policy, including tracking pay code and attendance issues.
- Oversee all SCADA and Relay construction and maintenance activities to support internal and external customers, ensuring deliverables meet corporate standards, guidelines, processes, and procedures.
- Ensure efficient scheduling and routing of department work requests.
- Design and maintain the LCEC two-way radio system, SCADA data communication system, and TWACS data communication system.
- Maintain and test protective relaying systems.
- Ensure availability and accuracy of test equipment and maintenance of departmental databases.
- Oversee installation and maintenance of line devices, including single and three-phase breakers, regulators, automated switches, and other SCADA and Relay-controlled devices, ensuring compliance with corporate standards.
- Oversee failure analysis of line and substation equipment using available department tools.
- Partner with internal and external customers and suppliers to resolve problems and implement solutions related to electrical power substation construction.
- Provide work directions to SCADA and Relay Technicians for communications in substation construction and maintenance, adhering to safety, industry, and regulatory standards.
- Serve as an internal or external representative on teams and committees regarding communication construction and maintenance standards.
- Select, develop, and maintain a highly qualified and motivated staff, ensuring timely completion of performance evaluations, coaching, training, employee relations, and conflict resolution.
- Ensure teamwork activities are completed on time, within budget, and to quality expectations.
- Identify and influence implementation of best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and reduce operating costs.
- Establish assessment systems and monitor activities to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ensure applicable training is completed timely and documented appropriately.
- Partner with peers, project managers, and project/program teams to enhance overall business results.
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels, ensuring smooth operations, productive communications, and timely, courteous information sharing.
- Support implementation of corporate and divisional strategic initiatives and objectives, and recommend company policies and procedures related to design, engineering, and service delivery.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, formal training, professional publications, networking, and participation in professional societies.
- Work in emergency storm situations (e.g., hurricanes), including long hours (over 12 hours per day) for extended periods (up to 2 months) as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma with at least 10 years of direct experience in communications systems construction and/or maintenance areas, or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Communications Technology, or a related field.
- Six years of progressive experience in the electric utility environment.
- At least two years of experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role.
- Valid Florida driver’s license (within 30 days of becoming a Florida resident).
