About the Role

This Real Estate Audit Supervisor position is based in our Tysons Corner, VA office. You’ll work alongside an integrated team of seasoned CPAs and industry leaders, taking a lead role in all aspects of audit engagements—from planning to completion. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring staff, building and maintaining client relationships, and contributing to Withum’s reputation for teamwork and client service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engagement team in planning and executing audits, reviews, and compilations for real estate clients, including REITs, developers, real estate funds, and property managers.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of audit engagements, including staffing, planning, risk assessment, fieldwork, and reporting.
  • Provide supervision and support to engagement staff, fostering open communication with managers and partners.
  • Collaborate with managers and partners to resolve client issues and address legal, regulatory, and accounting challenges during audits.
  • Review general ledger accounts and financial statements for reliability and compliance.
  • Manage multiple engagements concurrently across various teams.
  • Create and track engagement budgets to identify and address inefficiencies.
  • Conduct constructive discussions with team members regarding evaluations and provide mentorship.
  • Serve as an instructor or discussion leader in professional development programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • CPA certification or CPA eligibility.
  • At least 4 years of public accounting experience, with a focus on leading multiple engagements and supervising staff.
  • Experience auditing real estate or related organizations.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and auditing skills, including familiarity with US GAAP due to the complexity of engagements in this sector.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
  • Proven leadership, training, and mentoring abilities, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
