About the role
CenterPoint Energy is seeking a Supervising Surveyor to perform a full range of surveying and civil engineering supervisory capacities and administrative duties related to employees and contractors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in surveying, real estate, GIS, or civil engineering, with a specialization in land and title rights, and document management.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all Surveying and Geomatics operations for CenterPoint Energy
- Provides supervision, coaching, and mentoring to junior and reporting personnel
- Exercises disciplinary actions when necessary
- Establishes, reviews, and improves business and technical processes in areas of responsibility
- Actively pursues initiatives aimed at continuous improvement of services provided to internal and external customers
- Leads technical reviews of Surveying and Geomatics technology and prepares report on findings and recommendations
- Establishes measures and KPIs for production, performance, and workload
- Supervises staff and contractors, and leads acquisition related survey activities with individual landowners, companies, corporations, federal, state, and local governmental agencies
- Represents Company as a liaison with municipalities, governmental, and regulatory agencies to insure compliance with land acquisition and easement requirements
- Possesses an advanced understanding of property rights, land rights, acquisition, and property transactions
- Facilitates and leads activities involving real estate, construction, and associated documents
- Reviews and recommends changes to legal documents utilized in land acquisition and management of company’s real property assets
- Initiates and/or participates on cross functional business unit teams
- Coordinates with outside staffing and contract resources, where needed
- Engages and coordinates with Contractors and Consultants to ensures the scope, quality, and consistency of work
- Appears as expert professional witness in legal proceedings
- Dedicated to meeting customer and business requirements
- Reviews and approves field and office work of junior staff as applicable
- Coordinates the preparation and presentation of technical and business documents
- Consults and supports management on technical matters related to surveying & right-of-way
- Manage within budgetary constraints, develop and implement cost controls, evaluate and recommend changes to fee schedules for charges related to services and grants of property rights
Requirements
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in Business, Geometrics, Surveying, Engineering, GIS, or related discipline from an accredited college/university or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- Must be a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in the State of Texas
- Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Surveying, Real Estate, GIS, or Civil Engineering with specialization in Land and Title Rights, and Document Management or equivalent education
