About the role

Responsibilities
- Composes and types legal documents and correspondence.
- Processes legal documents.
- Maintains legal case records.
- Serves as supervisor for a clerical staff performing legal and general clerical work.
- Trains clerical staff and participates in intra-and inter-department training.
- Directs the work of others and implements effective office procedures for recordkeeping, file systems, processing of legal documents, and other work performed by staff.
Requirements
- One year of experience in Sacramento County service in the class of Legal Secretary II.
- Two years of experience in Sacramento County service in the class of Legal Secretary I.
- Three years of clerical experience involving the preparation and processing of legal documents for court action.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of legal terminology, spelling and usage.
- Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others.
- Ability to analyze situations accurately and implement an effective course of action with minimal direction.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate standard office machines and equipment.
Skills
- Understanding and applying legal processes and procedures.
- Ability to take oral dictation involving legal terminology.
- Ability to perform Word Processing Control Operator duties.
