SUPERVISING COOK I
About the role
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) seeks a Supervising Cook I to join our team in Amador County. This position is subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which temporarily reduces monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals for CAL FIRE personnel and visitors.
- Supervise and train kitchen staff to ensure food safety and quality.
- Manage inventory and maintain kitchen equipment.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and standards.
- Perform field work requiring physical performance, including running, walking, and lifting over 25 pounds.
Requirements
- Medical Clearance prior to employment.
- Ability to wear respiratory protection equipment, including SCBA.
- Physical fitness to perform demanding tasks in various environments.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of experience in food service operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must also pass a comprehensive medical evaluation, including a review of medical history, physical examination, vision, hearing, spirometry, and exercise treadmill tests.
Skills
Strong culinary skills, excellent communication, and leadership abilities are essential. Proficiency in using kitchen equipment and maintaining food safety standards are also required.

Pay
$4,726.00 - $5,811.00 per month, with a 3% salary reduction due to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025.
