About the role

Join New Directions Mental Health, a member of Transformations Care Network (TCN), as we embark on an exciting journey to empower Supervising Clinicians to make a difference in the field of behavioral health. We are committed to improving accessibility while raising the standard of care. Supervising Clinicians provide clinical supervision and training for unlicensed, graduate-level, and/or intern clinicians who deliver outpatient mental health counseling and may also maintain a caseload of therapy clients. Supervising Clinicians conduct individual and group supervision, oversee clinical development of therapists in conjunction with Clinic Directors, and serve as organizational culture carriers accountable for promoting clinical excellence and quality outcomes. Clinicians with this title supervise (or maintain availability to supervise) a minimum of 3 supervisees.

Responsibilities

Essential Supervision Duties

  • Provide individual and/or group supervision weekly to associate-level clinicians. Licensure supervision adheres to state regulations, payor contracts, and agency supervision policy.
  • Supervision may be provided both live and/or via video conference and may span multiple sites.
  • May provide supervision/consultation to independently licensed clinicians.
  • Deliver services in person within a clinic site and/or via a hybrid model (in-person and work-from-home) as determined by business and clinical needs. Note: Clinicians providing FFS supervision only (without direct client care) may work remotely if business needs permit.
  • Maintain board registration and other regulatory requirements for licensure supervision where required.
  • Review clinical documentation of supervisees, including evaluation of treatment plans, session notes, and related documents. Approve and sign session notes, treatment plans, and other documents as required by payor and/or licensure requirements.
  • Complete and maintain records of supervision notes and supervision agreements in a dedicated file, and record sessions in the EHR. Submit notes by the end of the day supervision was held.
  • Assess clinicians across core competency areas; provide regular measurement and feedback.
  • Hold supervisees accountable to clinical best practices such as Measurement-Based Care.
  • Identify and monitor areas for performance improvement and report concerns regarding clinical skills, ethics, or compliance to the Clinic Director.
  • Provide backup support to the Clinic Director in screening, interviewing, and training new clinicians and interns as needed.
  • Complete required trainings and maintain all licensing requirements to retain independent licensure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Mental Health Therapist Duties (if providing direct care)

  • Provide clinical services to clients (individual/group/family) in person or via telehealth and document all sessions within 24 hours (best practice) or 72 hours maximum.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and supervision sessions where applicable.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Complete all documentation related to therapeutic services in a timely and thorough manner, meeting ethical, legal, and contractual requirements, including treatment plans, notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Consult with patients, their families (with consent), and other healthcare professionals to communicate clinical findings and recommendations.
  • Consult with other clinical staff to facilitate implementation of highest-quality clinical services.
  • Use evidence-based best practices and outcomes-based measures to evaluate clients and progress.
  • Coordinate care with clinic medication prescribers.
  • Consistently meet established productivity expectations.
  • Manage caseload for no-shows/cancellations and discharge clients as needed.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures of the practice.
  • Maintain all privacy and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher from an applicable accredited program.
  • Valid independent clinical license in the state(s) where services are provided.
  • Meet minimum post-licensure experience requirements for supervisor as determined by the licensing Board.
  • Meet all Licensing Board requirements to provide clinical supervision (e.g., registration, state-required coursework, years of experience).
  • Knowledge of state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Strong computer abilities and proficiency with electronic medical records.
  • Strong commitment to professional Code of Ethics.
  • Understanding of privacy and HIPAA requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with a team, especially in stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training in clinical supervision (required where mandated by licensing boards).
  • Knowledge of current standards, principles, and practices of psychiatric care.
  • 3-5 years of post-licensure experience.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, methods, issues, and approaches in mental health.

Pay

The base compensation range for this role is $45 – $53 per billable unit. Clinical Supervisors (non-lead)/Supervising Clinicians are eligible for a supervisory differential that enhances their base rate. Actual compensation may vary based on licensure, experience, market-driven enhancements, and incentive opportunities available for this role.
