About the role
The APP Supervisor for the Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a key leadership role responsible for operational oversight, team performance, and the ongoing development of advanced practice providers across these specialized service lines. The APP Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care through strong operational management, consistent implementation of evidence-based practice, and cultivation of a highly engaged provider team.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational oversight of APPs within the NCCU service line.
- Manage APP staffing, scheduling, and productivity including recruitment, onboarding, and orientation in alignment with departmental needs.
- Standardize evidence-based practice, clinical documentation, and care delivery.
- Oversee quality indicators, identify trends, and implement improvement strategies.
- Address safety concerns, professionalism issues, and performance challenges promptly and appropriately.
- Conduct ongoing professional performance evaluations and support provider development plans.
- Foster a supportive and positive work environment through routine mission partner rounding, targeted recognition efforts, and promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Collaborate closely with physician leadership, nursing leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure team alignment and service excellence.
- Provide direct patient care while serving as a clinical role model for high-quality, patient-centered practice, with responsibilities divided into approximately 70% administrative and 30% clinical.
- Support the integration of new clinical initiatives and quality improvements.
Qualifications
- Education: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a specialization as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP), a post-master's certificate, or a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS)
- Nurse Practitioners must hold a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification from the National Certification Corporation
- Current and valid Physician Assistant License or Advanced Practice Nurse License in the State of Illinois or eligibility for licensing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant in an NCCU is required.
